Burgas, Sofia (Bulgaria) From Monday 14th to Friday 18th May, the 70th Council of Interoceanmetal Joint Organization was held in Burgas, Bulgaria. Representatives of Member states, i.e., the Russian Federation, the Republic of Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, the Slovak Republic, the Republic of Poland, the Republic of Cuba, together with their delegates, took part in the 70th jubilee of the Council. Mr Andrzej Przybycin, the President of the National Atomic Energy Agency, fulfilled the role of the Chairman of Council.
The Council of IOM was honoured to welcome a special guest, the Deputy Minister of Energy of the Republic of Bulgaria, Mr Krassimir Parvanov. During the meeting various matters concerning further exploration activities in the area of exploration were discussed. The Council approved the Report of General Director on the IOM’s activities for the previous year. On the basis of the Act of the Audit Committee, the Council approved IOM’s financial activity for the previous year.
According to Article 20 of the Agreement on the establishment of the Interoceanmetal Joint Organization, further activities for the future cooperation were discussed and accepted. The most important aspect of the meeting was the discussion about the future role of IOM and it’s sponsoring states with regards to exploration and the next exploitation phase of work.
On the end of the Council week Director General took part in the European Mining Business Forum in Sofia and delivered the presentation: “The exploration activities of Interoceanmetal Joint Organization for the development of deep sea polymetallic nodules project”.
The next Council is to take place in Poland, Szczecin, from 19 till 23 of November 2018.
