Bratislava (Slovakia) The 72nd Council of Interoceanmetal Joint Organization was organised on 13-17 May 2019 by the Slovak Ministry of Environment and the State Geological Institute of Dionyz Stur. The participants included plenipotentiary representatives and delegates of IOM Member States (Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Poland, Russia and Slovakia). The meeting was held under the chairmanship of Mr Andrzej Przybycin (Poland). During the Council meeting, participants met with Norbert Kurilla, State Secretary at the Ministry of Environment of the Slovak Republic. The discussion focused on the new structure of the budget plan and the work schedule for 2020, as well as on future IOM activities.
Within the Council program, participants visited Slovakia’s ferroalloy manufacturer, OFZ a.s. smelting plant in Siroka. The company produces a wide range of silicon and manganese ferroalloys, cored wires and by-products from the ferroalloys production. In the past, test processing of polymetallic nodules was carried out at OFZ and the plant’s technological facilities have the prerequisites to adapt to the processing of this raw material.
The next Council meeting is to take place in Szczecin (Poland) in November 2019.
